The Finding the Link Between Ted Kennedy's Cancer and Cell Phone Use
Senator Ted Kennedy’s diagnosis of a malignant brain tumor is, once again, stirring debate over the safety of cell phones. Kennedy’s brain tumor, called a glioma, is the type critics have associated for years with the use of cell phones.
Prominent neurosurgeons have stated they do not use cell phones held next to their ears. “I use it on the speaker-phone mode,” said Dr. Vini Khurana, a prominent researcher and an associate professor of neurosurgery at the Australian National University. “I do not hold it to my ear.” Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent and a neurosurgeon at Emory University Hospital admitted that, he too, used an earpiece.
CTIA – the Wireless Association and the FDA both say that studies show cell phones are not a health risk. Other experts disagree. They point to research that indicates a link between cell phones and three types of tumors: glioma (the type Senator Kennedy has); cancer of a salivary gland near the ear called the parotid; and acoustic neuroma, which is a tumor found near the ear. An Israeli study published last year found a 58 percent increase in risk for parotid tumors among people who relied heavily on their cell phones. And a Swedish study found the risk for glioma and acoustic neuroma doubled after ten years of heavy use.
Since cell phones are relatively new, there hasn’t been a chance for long-term studies that will settle the question of whether there is truly a link between cell phone use and brain tumors. Some critics express particular concern for children who begin using cell phones as kids and continue throughout their lives. “More and more kids are using cell phones,” said Dr. Paul Rosch, clinical professor of medicine and psychiatry at New York Medical College. “They may be much more affected. Their brains are growing rapidly and their skulls are thinner.”
Dr. Khurana admits that cell phones are convenient and can save lives in an emergency, but he says that “there is a significant and increasing body of evidence for a link between mobile phone usage and certain brain tumors,” adding that malignant brain tumors are “a life-ending diagnosis.
“It is anticipated that this danger has far broader public health ramifications than asbestos and smoking,” he said.

Cancer Center in Pittsburgh Warns of Cell Phone Risks
Cancer Center in Pittsburgh Warns of Cell Phone Risks
The head of a prominent cancer research institute issued an unprecedented warning to his faculty and staff Wednesday: Limit cell phone use because of the possible risk of cancer.
warning from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, is contrary to numerous studies that don’t find a link between cancer and cell phone use, and a public lack of worry by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Herberman is basing his alarm on early unpublished data. He says it takes too long to get answers from science and he believes people should take action now especially when it comes to children.
Really at the heart of my concern is that we shouldn’t wait for a definitive study to come out, but err on the side of being safe rather than sorry later, Herberman said.
No other major academic cancer research institutions have sounded such an alarm about cell phone use. But Herberman’s advice is sure to raise concern among many cell phone users and especially parents.
In the memo he sent to about 3,000 faculty and staff Wednesday, he says children should use cell phones only for emergencies because their brains are still developing.
Adults should keep the phone away from the head and use the speakerphone or a wireless headset, he says. He even warns against using cell phones in public places like a bus because it exposes others to the phone’s electromagnetic fields.
The issue that concerns some scientists though nowhere near a consensus is electromagnetic radiation, especially its possible effects on children. It is not a major topic in conferences of brain specialists.
A 2008 University of Utah analysis looked at nine studies including some Herberman cites with thousands of brain tumor patients and concludes we found no overall increased risk of brain tumors among cellular phone users. The potential elevated risk of brain tumors after long-term cellular phone use awaits confirmation by future studies.
Studies last year in France and Norway concluded the same thing.
If there is a risk from these products and at this point we do not know that there is it is probably very small, the Food and Drug Administration says on an agency Web site.
Still, Herberman cites a growing body of literature linking long-term cell phone use to possible adverse health effects including cancer.
Although the evidence is still controversial, I am convinced that there are sufficient data to warrant issuing an advisory to share some precautionary advice on cell phone use, he wrote in his memo.
A driving force behind the memo was Devra Lee Davis, the director of the university’s center for environmental oncology.
The question is do you want to play Russian roulette with your brain, she said in an interview from her cell phone while using the hands-free speaker phone as recommended. I don’t know that cell phones are dangerous. But I don’t know that they are safe.
Of concern are the still unknown effects of more than a decade of cell phone use, with some studies raising alarms, said Davis, a former health adviser in the Clinton Administration.
She said 20 different groups have endorsed the advice the Pittsburgh cancer institute gave, and authorities in England, France and India have cautioned children’s use of cell phones.
Herberman and Davis point to a massive ongoing research project known as Interphone, involving scientists in 13 nations, mostly in Europe. Results already published in peer-reviewed journals from this project aren’t so alarming, but Herberman is citing work not yet published.
The published research focuses on more than 5,000 cases of brain tumors. The National Research Council in the U.S., which isn’t participating in the Interphone project, reported in January that the brain tumor research had selection bias. That means it relied on people with cancer to remember how often they used cell phones. It is not considered the most accurate research approach.
The largest published study, which appeared in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in 2006, tracked 420,000 Danish cell phone users, including thousands that had used the phones for more than 10 years. It found no increased risk of cancer among those using cell phones.
A French study based on Interphone research and published in 2007 concluded that regular cell phone users had no significant increased risk for three major types of nervous system tumors. It did note, however, that there was the possibility of an increased risk among the heaviest users for one type of brain tumor, but that needs to be verified in future research.
Earlier research also has found no connection.
Joshua E. Muscat of Penn State University, who has studied cancer and cell phones in other research projects partly funded by the cell phone industry, said there are at least a dozen studies that have found no cancer-cell phone link. He said a Swedish study cited by Herberman as support for his warning was biased and flawed.
We certainly don’t know of any mechanism by which radiofrequency exposure would cause a cancerous effect in cells. We just don’t know this might possibly occur, Muscat said.
Cell phones emit radiofrequency energy, a type of radiation that is a form of electromagnetic radiation, according to the National Cancer Institute. Though studies are being done to see if there is a link between it and tumors of the brain and central nervous system, there is no definitive link between the two, the institute says on its Web site.
By all means, if a person feels compelled that they should take precautions in reducing the amount of electromagnetic radio waves through their bodies, by all means they should do so, said Dan Catena, a spokesman for the American Cancer Society. But at the same time, we have to remember there’s no conclusive evidence that links cell phones to cancer, whether it’s brain tumors or other forms of cancer.
Joe Farren, a spokesman for the CTIA-The Wireless Association, a trade group for the wireless industry, said the group believes there is a risk of misinforming the public if science isn’t used as the ultimate guide on the issue.
When you look at the overwhelming majority of studies that have been peer reviewed and published in scientific journals around the world, you’ll find no relationship between wireless usage and adverse health affects, Farren said.
Frank Barnes, who chaired the January report from the National Research Council, said Wednesday that the jury is out on how hazardous long-term cell phone use might be.
Speaking from his cell phone, the professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder said he takes no special precautions in his own phone use. And he offered no specific advice to people worried about the matter.
It’s up to each individual to decide what if anything to do. If people use a cell phone instead of having a land line, that may very well be reasonable for them, he said.
Susan Juffe, a 58-year-old Pittsburgh special education teacher, heard about Herberman’s cell phone advice on the radio earlier in the day.
Now, I’m worried. It’s scary, she said.
She says she’ll think twice about allowing her 10-year-old daughter Jayne to use the cell phone.
I don’t want to get it (brain cancer) and I certainly don’t want you to get it, she explained to her daughter.
Sara Loughran, a 24-year-old doctoral student at the University of Pittsburgh, sat in a bus stop Wednesday chatting on her cell phone with her mother. She also had heard the news earlier in the day, but was not as concerned.
I think if they gave me specific numbers and specific information and it was scary enough, I would be concerned, Loughran said, planning to call her mother again in a matter of minutes. Without specific numbers, it’s too vague to get me worked up.

Cancer to be world's top killer by 2010, WHO says
Cancer to be world's top killer by 2010, WHO says
ATLANTA – Cancer will overtake heart disease as the world's top killer by 2010, part of a trend that should more than double global cancer cases and deaths by 2030, international health experts said in a report released Tuesday. Rising tobacco use in developing countries is believed to be a huge reason for the shift, particularly in China and India, where 40 percent of the world's smokers now live.
So is better diagnosing of cancer, along with the downward trend in infectious diseases that used to be the world's leading killers.
Cancer diagnoses around the world have steadily been rising and are expected to hit 12 million this year. Global cancer deaths are expected to reach 7 million, according to the new report by the World Health Organization.
An annual rise of 1 percent in cases and deaths is expected — with even larger increases in China, Russia and India. That means new cancer cases will likely mushroom to 27 million annually by 2030, with deaths hitting 17 million.
Underlying all this is an expected expansion of the world's population — there will be more people around to get cancer.

Do Cell Phones Harm Brains?
Do Cell Phones Harm Brains?
There’s been a great deal of talk lately about cell phone use, and increasingly people tell you they want a few basic rules to stop cell phone invasion that comes from loud conversations in quiet spaces.
But what about harmful effects that cells phones bring to the brain? Today’s Scientific American questions whether cancer fears from cell phone use, are fact of fiction? Listen to Dr. Olsen’s findings on prenatal concerns here. What do you think?
Scientists remain undecided about safety guarantees from mobiles, which is why they advise using an ear piece and speakerphone.
According to researcher Jorn Olsen at UCLA cell phones do not send enough radiation to alter or damage DNA, and for this reason do not tend to lead toward cancer.
Not surprisingly, long-term cell phone use seems to create greater problems, while short term exposure appears to hold less danger, according to most recent studies out there. UK researcher, Laurie Challis pointed out that of the 29,000 men and 38,000 women yearly who develop brain cancer people in industrial nations are twice as likely to develop brain cancer as those in developing countries. The jury is still out on why this is so.
Studies are currently being carried out in several countries on this topic, and yet research so far still shows conflicting conclusions. To complicate the findings further, plenty of anecdotal stories seem support both sides of the debate.
However since scientists cannot rule out harmful risks, some people are playing it safe to avoid increasing brain cancer risks. Which side of the debate are you on? Fact or fiction?

iPhone could raise brain tumor risk
iPhone could raise brain tumor risk
By Ben Wasserman
Nov 19, 2008 - 11:47:23 AM
News broke that the search giant Google announced on Nov 18 that it just launched a new version of Google Mobile App which allows users to enter their search query by voice. But this new feature comes in U.S. English and for iphone only.
Mobile phone or cell phone is convenient to use, but carries a risk. The industry does not want you to know about it and always down play the adverse effect. Many people have already known that use of cell phone for a long term would increase risk of brain cancer. It does not matter you use iphone or another type. Google Mobile App cannot reduce the risk!
Hardell L and colleagues from University Hospital in Orebro Sweden published a study in the May 2008 issue of International Journal of Oncology saying that evidence is convincing that long term use of the wireless stuff drastically increases risk of brain tumors.
Hardell and colleagues reviewed 10 studies and found that long term use defined as more than 10 years increased the tumor risk by 20 percent. When used on the same side of the head, wireless phone increased the risk of brain tumor by 100 percent.
When you use any modern technology, always consider there might be a risk associated with the application. Google voice recognition technology can’t reduce the risk, not just yet.
This isn't really surprising.

Mobile Phone Use Boosts Cancer Risk by 50 Percent
Mobile Phone Use Boosts Cancer Risk by 50 Percent
(NaturalNews) Heavy users of mobile phones are 50 percent more likely to develop cancer of the salivary glands, according to a new study conducted by researchers at Tel Aviv University and published in the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Researchers studied 500 Israelis who had tumors of the salivary gland, and compared their cell phone usage to 1300 Israelis who did not have such tumors. They found that those who use cellular phones several hours per day against the same side of the head had a 50 percent higher tumor risk than those who used phones less frequently.
Rural residents with heavy mobile phone use had an even higher tumor risk, compared with urban users. The researchers speculated that this could be due to the higher radiation dose needed for mobile phones to function in areas with fewer towers.
A number of studies have linked heavy mobile phone use the health problems such as sleep disruption and brain cancer. While the mobile phone industry often says that studies have proved the devices safe, the researchers noted that these studies tend to look only a short-term exposure, whereas radiation-related health problems may often take up to a decade before symptoms develop.
The researchers said that carrying out studies in Israel, where the level of mobile phone use (and thus radiation exposure) is very high, can give insight otherwise only available from a longer-term study.
"Compared to other studies, the amount of exposure to radiofrequency radiation we saw here was much higher," said lead researcher Siegal Sadetzki. "If you like, you're seeing what could happen elsewhere 'speeded-up' in Israel."
The researchers also noted that many studies look only for brain tumors, and not other health problems like the one examined in the current study. This could be because cancer of the salivary gland is normally quite rare, accounting, for example, for only 0.23 percent of all cancers diagnosed in the United Kingdom each year.

A Dangerous Call - Is Your Cell Phone Frying Your Brain?
A Dangerous Call - Is Your Cell Phone Frying Your Brain?
They are both fashion accessories and an essential part of our lives. Yet since they first became widely available in the 1990s, there have been nagging doubts about just how safe mobile phones really are. Could they cause cancers in the brain? Does living near a mobile phone mast raise your risk of other cancers?
Professor Denis Henshaw, head of the Human Radiation Effects Group at Bristol University, says: "We are steeped in denial over the safety of mobile phones and related technologies." He points, as an example, to a recent Austrian study which found a raised risk of breast cancer near phone masts. "We have emission levels in the UK similar to those in Austria and yet there is no warning to people of possible dangers."
Contrast the UK position with that in other countries, where at the very least they take the approach that when it comes to this new technology, its better to be safe than sorry. The German government has taken a more cautious line over wi-fi. Last September, the German environment ministry recommended that people should keep their exposure to radiation as low as possible by replacing wi-fi with a cabled connection. Three years ago, the Vienna Chamber of Doctors put up more than 21,000 posters in surgeries and other places with very specific warnings about mobile phones, such as: "Use your phone as little as possible" and "Men - never keep a phone in your trouser pockets as it can reduce fertility."
A study last month reported that out of 360 men attending an infertility clinic, those who used their mobile the most had the poorest sperm quality. Last October, two Swedish professors pulled together the results of 11 studies involving people who had used mobiles for more than a decade and found they were 20 per cent more likely to develop a benign tumour in the inner ear, and 30 per cent more likely to develop a type of brain tumour known as a malignant glioma.
Last month, the Irish Doctors Environmental Association said that the current thermal-based guidelines were clearly no longer appropriate and called on the government to "immediately start research into the non-thermal effects of exposure to electromagnetic radiation". "There is absolutely no doubt these effects exist," says Dr Andrew Goldsworthy, a biologist and expert in low frequency microwave radiation, and honorary lecturer at Imperial College in London.
"For instance, we've known for more than 30 years that electromagnetic fields affect the behaviour of calcium in living cells." He claims that this could explain the symptoms reported by people who say they are affected by pulsed microwave radiation - the sort emitted by mobile phones. "The textbook symptoms of too little calcium - such as fatigue, muscles cramps, irregular heart rhythm and gut problems - are very similar to those reported by people who say they are affected by microwave radiation," he says.
"Mobile phones and the rest aren't going to go away, but could we do more to acknowledge the possible problem so people can make an informed choice about using them and can learn to deal with the effects?"

Cell Phone Radiation Effects, Brain Tumors and Chidren
With 3 billion cell phone users worldwide and more than 260 million in the United States alone—among them 46% of U.S. children aged 8–12, according to Nielsen Mobile figures released 10 September 2008—human exposure to low-energy radiation in the 800- to 2,000-megahertz range is at an all-time high. The most recent attempt to systematically review the epidemiologic evidence for increased risk of brain tumors related to cell phone use indicates that repercussions from this global experiment are coming to light. In a meta-analysis published in the May 2008 issue of the International Journal of Oncology, Swedish researchers found significant associations between long-term cell phone use and brain tumor risk. In July 2008 market research firm MultiMedia Intelligence reported that more than 16 million U.S. teens use cell phones.
“We found that cell phone use is linked to gliomas [malignant brain tumors] and acoustic neuromas [benign tumors of the brain's auditory nerve] and are showing up after only ten years,” says lead author Lennart Hardell, an oncologist and cancer epidemiologist at University Hospital in Örebro, Sweden. Specifically, for studies that included at least 10 years of exposure, there was a doubling in the risk of gliomas for ipsilateral (same-side) but not contralateral (opposite-side) exposures to the head (as reflected by which hand the subject typically used to hold his/her cell phone). A 2.4-fold increase in risk was seen for acoustic neuromas due to ipsilateral exposures, whereas no increased risk occurred for meningiomas (tumors that occur in the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord).

Concerns have been raised about whether cell phone use can be linked to the development of brain tumours. Now, a study from Swedish researchers provides evidence backing the claim.
Researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, based their findings on questionnaire and interview data obtained from 209 persons with brain tumours and 425 healthy control subjects. In a 2-year study, the team found an increased risk in anatomical areas of the brain exposed to microwaves during a mobile phone call. This risk holds even when statistical adjustments are made for other risk factors including ionizing radiation and laboratory exposures
The researcher pointed out, however, that most of the people in the study used the older analog system, which gives two to three times higher exposure than the digital system, which is now mostly used -- at least in Europe. Larger studies are necessary to make firm conclusions. The investigators have a much larger brain tumour study ongoing with about 1,500 incident patients and 1,500 controls and the results are expected within one year.
In light of their current findings, the authors offer several suggestions about cell phone usage. Use an earpiece to reduce exposure to the brain and, in a car, use an external fixed antenna. Otherwise, your exposure to microwaves might even be higher than using the phone outside the car. In addition, extended conversations should be conducted on a regular corded telephone.
Insofar as children are concerned, since the developing brain might be more sensitive to microwaves, children's exposure should be limited. One useful tip is to find out the specific absorption rate (SAR) value of various cell phone types. The SAR may differ by as much as a factor of 20 between different brands.
Commentary:
It is reprehensible to even consider that someone would allow a child to use a cell phone. The danger is far too great. We all need to reduce our exposure. The best way is to minimize their use to the smallest amount possible. Secondly, only use digital rather than analog phones, as the radiation dose is reduced by up to 90%. Thirdly, only use them with a head set. Please review the other articles for further information.

No Way to Hide Truth: Cell Phone Does Cause Tumor
No Way to Hide Truth: Cell Phone Does Cause Tumor
Wednesday, October 29, 2008 by: Chanyut Phrukkumwong (see all articles by this author)
Reducing Electromagnetic Frequency Exposure May Improve Your Health
(NaturalNews) Long-term exposure to electromagnetic radio waves at certain strengths does cause brain tumors. Just like in the case of cigarette smoking, which nobody realized could damage your health until the era where lung cancer caused by regular smoking showed up. Such warnings about the dangers from electromagnetic radio waves from cell phones have been around for some years now. But the reporting has not been very widespread because of the attempt to hide this truth from those who hold the stake, which is certainly the cell phone industry (manufacturers).
Dr. George Carlo is among the first scientists who warned the public about this danger. He refused a billion-dollar bribe from the cell phone industry who told him to keep quiet about the research results that he conducted. Take a look at his website, (http://www.safewireless.org) .
Other honest doctors and health advocates have helped this warning to become more widespread and more understandable by comparing such dangers with the ones associated to smoking. Everybody mistook, at first, that smoking was healthy but we have later come to know that it is dangerous.
More warnings about cell phones can be found here (http://www.naturalnews.com/cell_phone.html) .
We may notice that such warnings about the danger of cell phone is usually put out by honest doctors, health advocates, health-related people while hidden by cell phone industries or technology-related people. Until recently, this issue was mentioned about by the technology-related web site like CNET or ZD net.
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/communications/...
http://www.cnet.com/4520-6033_1-5741203...
Even though an objection against the research finding is also there, we know that it is only a voice from cell-phone industry who has tried its best to conceal this fact and to protect itself from losing the profits. This shows that the industry itself has already realized this truth simply because there is no way to hide it.
So what’s the deal? Is it possible to stop using cell phone? No way. Cell phone has become part of our daily lives. It helps us in case of emergency or while being in the place where we need to talk and no other safe communication device is available. We should take action to minimize such risk and to be responsible for our own health. Simply be smart. Take moderate practice. Make use of it but do not let it harm us. Use headset, use handsfree feature, use it only when a wired phone is not available, do not go for a long conversation, send a message instead of talking. There are quite a number of techniques to minimize the risk.
Also, we can be selective by choosing a cell phone model that emits minimum strength of electromagnetic waves possible. Check out here http://www.fda.gov/cellphones/qa.html#6.
Details about the concentration of electromagnetic waves at home noted in the following article is also of interest http://www.naturalnews.com/023307.html.
Since cell phone has become a world-wide public issue, everyone in the world uses it while its long-term use does cause some diseases, there should be a public law that helps administer the marketing, selling, and the use of cell phone the same way as on cigarettes or sports drinks. The law that enforces the labeling of warning message on every cell phone and/or cell phone shop like “Long-term use of cell phone causes cancer”, “Cell phone causes autism”, that prohibits children under the age of 15 or so (whose physical development is still not so endured as adult) to buy a cell phone is strongly encouraged.

With the cell phone bans taking a speedy toll at every aspect of everyday lives, one wonders if at all are the cell phones all that bad?
An editorial by a neurosurgeon at Lake Forest Hospital has delved into the biggest scientific concerns of recent times- Do cell phones increase brain cancer risk? Pawl has called for major research initiatives to assess the possibility that using cellular phones may lead to an increased risk of brain tumours.
He has called for collaborative research initiatives to determine whether the link between cell phones and brain cancer is real. Since a long time, scientists are worried that ELF exposure may increase the risk of brain cancers. But, till date, research has shown no clear link between cell phone use and brain tumors.
AdsSpy: 65 sites by this AdSense ID
Some experts have suggested that apparent increases in the number of brain cancers might reflect the use of sophisticated imaging techniques like computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging."However, the fact that the incidence of gliomas, especially the more malignant varieties, is increasing warrants action on this issue," wrote Pawl.
long-term cell phone use is "more dangerous to health than smoking cigarettes.
According to Pawl, the main problem is that no other research groups have performed actual studies showing a clear relationship between brain tumours and ELF.
He has called on scientific societies to play a leading role in designing and conducting studies that will definitively determine the risks of brain cancer associated with ELF exposure, particularly from cell phones.
"It seems that a cooperative effort by both the scientific community and state governing bodies will be needed. Some spearhead is now necessary in view of the magnitude and seriousness of the situation," wrote Pawl.
Pawl''s editorial is published in the November issue of the journal Surgical Neurology. The editorial states that recent studies have raised concerns that long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields (ELF) from cell-phone handsets can increase the risk of brain cancers and other nervous system tumours.
Other studies by the same group suggested that the use of wireless handsets in cordless home phones posed the same risk. In fact, after reviewing the evidence, one author suggested that long-term cell phone use is "more dangerous to health than smoking cigarettes." Other recent commentators have raised similar concerns.
But, if the findings were true, there would have been instances of increased rates of brain cancers over the last two decades. Some studies have reported that this is the case, particularly for the most malignant brain cancers. However, other studies have found a stable tumour rate.
A Swedish research earlier this year, indicated an increased risk of brain cancers (gliomas) as well as acoustic nerve tumors (neuromas) in people using cell phones for ten years or longer. It said that tumours were more likely to develop on the same side as the cell phone was used.
With the ever-increasing use of cell phones, including widespread use by children and teenagers, the findings have become a great deal of concern. The damaging effects of ELF, if any, might be even greater in the developing brain.
With, at least the above research will give us a more logical reasons to control the usage of cellphones and fight its addiction.

Why Cancer Occurs
Cancer: Causes and Effects
October 12th, 2008 by admin
Cancer has ravaged our western societies for many decades but there was a time not that long ago when cancer was not a part of our lexicon. Cancer is a man made disease caused by the introduction of toxic carcinogens, chemicals, pesticides, food preservatives and a host of additives.
Carcinogens attack the human cells attaching themselves to DNA and either altering cellular metabolism or the damaging the DMA directly. Normal DNA that is damaged and cannot repair itself leads to ‘programmed cell death’ a process called Biotransformation in which the damaged cells harmlessly become water soluble and are flushed from our body. Sometimes damaged DNA in a cell has no pathway and the cell has no choice but to become cancerous. Cancer tumors are formed when normal biological processes are hindered and the normally aggressive immune system is weak or has been weakened.
Some common carcinogens are tobacco smoke, asbestos (when inhaled), dioxins, radioactive material such as gamma rays, alpha particles (when ingested or inhaled) and x-rays which are highly carcinogenic due their retention in human organs. Also there are many natural carcinogens one being Aflatoxin B. which grows on stored nuts and grains. Another potent carcinogen is formaldehyde, which is used, in embalming and plastic making. In PCV manufacturing vinyl chloride is used which is a strong carcinogen.
Carcinogens are also produced by cooking foods at a very high temperature or by cooking meats until their well done. Some researchers say that the carcinogens present are so minute that they present no health threat. Others especially those in the natural health community say carcinogens in over cooked food do present a significant health threat and do add to cancer growing cells over a period of time.
The human body has a remarkable disposition to ward off disease through our built in immune system but a weakened immune system allows deadly carcinogens to get a foot hold in our cells enabling DNA damage. Acrylamide, a known carcinogen is created in frying or overheating foods such as potato chips, french fries and any other fried foods.
Smoking cigarettes and cigars may cause irreversible damage to human genes. There are over 4,000 chemical compounds, which are toxic to the human body and are carcinogenic. With all the education readily available on how deadly tobacco smoke is one would think smoking related diseases would be eradicated but that is not the case. Smoking still is a serious health problem.
With the advent of processed foods came innumerable additives that are foreign to the human body. Additives that add color or taste to a food and preservatives that unnaturally extend shelf life of processed foods. All man made additives are unnatural and may conflict with natural bodily functions. I won’t bore you with long scientific names, which can easily be found, on any processed food ingredient list. Suffice it to say all processed foods lend it to diminish. health.
Our water supply has been tragically compromised with the addition of chemicals added to the water in the name public health. Chlorine in massive amounts has been added to most public water supplies to kill off harmful germs when ironically it is the chlorine that is adding a foreign chemical in to millions of trusting people. Remember anything that is not natural in origin becomes a potentially dangerous ingredient in the ‘all-natural human body’. The human body reacts positively to natural wholesome foods and natural supplements and negatively to man made stuff that do not have natural ingredients in them.
In addition to harmful and potentially cancer causing preservatives added to food, pesticides and herbicides are liberally used to kill and deter insects and disease in our produce industry. These chemicals are poinsious to human consumption and studies support an increased cancer risk when consumed. As previously stated, any foreign entity introduced into the human body may potentially be harmful and increase cancer risk.
With that in mind one must place pharmaceutical drugs in the category of foreign material. Pharmaceutical drugs are used like eating candy in a brainwashed society. Every pill taken offers a challenge to our immune system and our naturally created normal bodily functions. Pharmaceutical drugs for the most part are a concoction of man made material created to mask the symptoms of a disease, to temporarily eliviate a medical problem. The pill inevitably is time stamped to ‘work’ or be effective for a period of time thus the masking effect wears off and you need to take another pill.
Our brave new world with boundless good intentions has opened up a Pandora’s box of genetic mutants that have cancer-causing implications. We are self-inflicting ourselves with poisons that immeasurably produce a hostile environment for our wondrously created immune system. Cancer in my opinion is a man made creation and could be eliminated if we all insisted, no demanded, that only all natural ingredients be added to our food, water, products, and medicine. Individually you can create your own ‘Cancer Free Zone’ by living ‘all natural’ and allowing your body to function as it was intended; “Free and Clean of Foreign Poisons”.

Beyond the Abstract - Lifestyle and Testicular Dysfunction: A Brief Update
Wednesday, 08 October 2008
BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - A variety of testicular pathologies to include testicular cancer, cryptorchidism and defective spermatogenesis have been increasing. While genetic factors play a role, growing evidence suggests that the testicle is damaged by environment and lifestyle-related factors either at prenatal or at puberty times. While the reproductive effects of tobacco, alcohol and sedentary lifestyle have not been well documented, other exposures such as excessive heat, ionizing radiation, dibromochloropropane, estrogens and anabolic steroids may induce severe damage to adult testicles. In this paper, we review lifestyle factors which may effect future male fertility and describe new findings on the effects of cell phone derived electromagnetic on male reproductive function.
Certain lifestyles engender more risk of excessive heat exposure to the testes. Exposure to hot occupational environment (bakers, welders, foundry workers), sedentary work habits, long periods of car travel, and tight clothing, can disrupt regulation of intrascrotal temperature and lead to increased testicular temperature that can affect spermatogenesis. Saleh et al demonstrated cigarette smoking leads to increases in reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and decreases in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) with disturbed ROS/TAC score. Smoking is associated with elevated levels of seminal leukocytes and the resulting oxidative stress due to ROS generation by activated leukocytes. Various components of cigarette smoke (i.e., polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) and smoking metabolites may act as chemotactic stimuli and thereby induce an inflammatory response, recruitment of leukocyte and subsequent generation of ROS. Recently, reports showed mild asthenozoospermia may be an early indicator of reduced semen quality in light smokers while heavy smokers showed profound teratozoospermia.
The effect of environmental toxicants and endocrine active compounds on male reproductive health has been the subject of extensive study. Various animal and human studies reported lead exposure can cause severe adverse effects on male reproductive organs. Lead causes excessive oxidative stress by interfering with antioxidant enzymes and also by its effect on cell membrane polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA).
The newest environmental exposure of concern to reproductive health relates to cell phone derived radiation. As energy carried by cell phone radiation [radiofrequency electromagnetic waves (RF-EMW)] is extremely low compared to ionizing radiation, i.e., X-rays (frequency, 1010-1018 MHz), they do not cause ionization of molecule. However, exposure to RF-EMW causes a number of effects on biological systems. Recently, epidemiological studies, including one from our center, have proposed cell phone usage may adversely affect important parameters os sperm quality. Cell phone usage was associated with reduced sperm motility in men using their phone in excess of 4 hours a day vs. men without cell phone use. A cross-sectional study reported odds ratio (OR) of 1.86 for infertility among military personnel who self-reported exposure to RF-EMW relative to those who reported no work near RF-EMW field.
The mechanism of RF-EMW induced reproductive damage appears mulitfactorial. Chronic exposure affects the mitochondrial genome and nuclear β-globin locus of epididymal spermatozoa causing increased expression of adhesion protein on spermatozoa. Others have demonstrated a decrease in mean seminiferous tubule diameter after exposure of rats to cell phone radiation. Various animal studies have demonstrated induction of oxidative stress after cell phone exposure, suggesting stimulation of mammalian cell plasma membrane NADH oxidase with resulting free radical production.
In vitro studies of RF-EMW on human sperm are conflicting. One study showed decreased progressive sperm motility following exposure to cell phone radiation for 5 min on neat semen of human volunteers. Others showed no effect on purified mature spermatozoa following RF-EMW exposure for 1 h. We have recently demonstrated for the first time that RF-EMW exposure can cause oxidative stress in ejaculated human semen (RF-EMW exposure duration 1 h, specific absorbance rate (SAR) 1.46 W/ kg, temperature of 20 OC). We found significant increases in ROS levels and increased ROS/TAC scores after cell phone exposure.
The question of life style effects on semen quality has been debated extensively over the recent years. Conclusions remain elusive because lifestyle exposures are myriad, and it is difficult to adequately address all sperm parameters with a single lifestyle factor. In addition, the interaction of genetics, age and exposure duration is detrimental for the reproductive system damage. It is necessary to study the different age groups regarding the exposure to RF-EMW and its association with various other RF-EMW-related diseases. In vivo studies on healthy volunteers should be carried out to explore the RF-EMW effect on the reproductive health of men. Ultimately, future studies will help continue the evidence-based analysis of the impact of lifestyle factors on male fertility.

Letter: Disguises can't mask cell tower health risksFrom:
Saturday, October 4, 2008
By now, most of us have heard about the news reports of the dangers of cell phone use and link to brain tumors. Cell phone towers are no different in causing health risks.
What really disturbs me is the installation of disguised cell phone equipment on the water tower right next to the Sebastian River Middle School, technically the same as having it on the school’s roof.
It is very unhealthy to live near cell phone towers and even worse to send children to a school underneath a cell phone tower or a water tower strapped with color-matched cell antennas.
The county government is responsible for allowing cell antennas next to Sebastian River Middle School. Are they knowledgeable about the possible health risk that may result from such a decision?
I imagine the county gets several decades of monthly lease payments on the cell phone equipment, which apparently is more important than health risks of those students, teachers and surrounding residents.
Now the students at Sebastian River Middle School and the nearby residents get to drink microwaved water. There are two more water towers with cell antennas in the county: State Road 60 and 58th Avenue, and U.S. 1 and 49th Avenue.
In March 2006, parents became concerned about possible harmful radiation at Flushing’s St. Mel’s School in Queens, N.Y., from the 23 cell antennas on the roof of the school. They started a drive to have them removed. Early this year and after two years of protests, Sprint-Nextel and T-Mobile disconnected the cell antennas and terminated the 30-year lease. The lease was a way for the Catholic diocese to raise money.
City Councilman Tony Avella, D-Bayside, said, “Public schools are prohibited from erecting antennas by federal law.”

I just wanted to share this. It's a serious threat that people fail to see or are made not to see, so I encourage people like Gary to keep doing what their doing and hopefully open the eyes of the people about dangers like this that the cell phone companies would not want people to know about!
